Universal Pictures and DreamWorks present a biographical account, based on a book by James R. Hansen, dramatizing the experiences of Neil Armstrong (Ryan Gosling), a former test pilot and commander of NASA's Apollo 11 moon mission, who, on July 20, 1969, was the first person to set foot on a planetary body other than his own. Director Damien Chazelle enlisted visual effects supervisor Paul Lambert, special effects supervisor J.D. Schwalm, production designer Nathan Crowley and makeup designer Donald Mowat to join him in re-creating Armstrong's historic voyage with artists at New Deal Studios, VER, Concept Overdrive and FilmLight Limited.  
   
Venom  
When investigative journalist Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) tangles with experimental scientist Dr. Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed), he finds himself infected with an alien Symbiote that gives him sinister superpowers. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Venom consigns the classic Marvel Comics villain a starring role. DNEG handles visual effects, under the leadership of visual effects supervisor Paul Franklin and visual effects producer Mark Soper. Legacy Effects explores concept design, The Third Floor delivers previs, and special effects supervisor J.D. Schwalm controls the practical action.  
   
Alpha  
In the last Ice Age, a lost hunter befriends an injured wolf and embarks on an epic journey to find his way home. Albert Hughes directs this meticulously researched fable, which stars Kodi Smit-McPhee as Keda. Visual effects supervisor Jeffrey A. Okun sculpts ancient landscapes and brings extinct creatures back to life with the help of artists at MPC, DNEG and Pixomondo, supported by CosFX, Flash Film Works, FreeStyle VFX, Rising Sun Pictures, Instinctual and RVX. Stereo supervisor Marcus Alexander and Legend 3D expand the ice-cold world of Alpha into the third dimension.  
   
The Meg  
Just when you thought it was safe ... Warner Bros. Pictures and director Jon Turtletaub bring novelist Steven Alten's giant prehistoric monster, Charadon megaladon, up from the depths of the sea to menace summer bathers and submariner Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham). Visual effects supervisor Adrian de Wet, visual effects producer Steve Garard and special effects supervisor Steve Ingram deliver aquatic thrills with artists at Scanline VFX, DNEG, Sony Pictures Imageworks, Image Engine, Soho VFX, Umedia, Unit 11, Halon Entertainment and Glasshammer Visual Effects.  
     
A.X.L.    
Lakeshore Entertainment and writer/director Oliver Daly deliver this unusual 'boy and his dog' story, which follows the growing relationship between a robotic canine, A.X.L. — an acronym for 'Attack, Exploration and Logistics' — and a kindly if awkward young man, Miles (Alex Neustaedter). Legacy Effects designed and built the titular robot for a production in which 50 percent of the character effects were practical. Iloura, Cutting Edge and SuperVixen generated computer animated A.X.L. shots. Interviews with both practical and digital artisans, as well as with writer/director Oliver Daly, will bring the story of A.X.L.'s creation from conception to final on-screen presence.
