After decades in development, 20th Century Fox and producers James Cameron and Jon Landau present their adaptation of Yukito Kishiro's manga classic about a 26th century scientist (Christoph Waltz) who salvages a damaged female cyborg (Rosa Salazar) whom he nurses back to consciousness as a deadly warrior. Director Robert Rodriguez brings cybernetic worlds to life with visual effects supervisor Richard Hollander, makeup effects supervisors Greg Nicotero and Carey Jones, and artisans at Lightstorm Entertainment, Weta Digital, KNB EFX Group, DNEG, Framestore and The Third Floor.

Mortal Engines
Universal Pictures presents an adaptation of the first of Philip Reeve's quartet of science fiction stories where a young woman (Hera Hilmar) in a post-apocalyptic world battles a tyrannical leader (Hugo Weaving) who commands a giant wheeled city that roams the ravaged planet. Producer Peter Jackson's collaborator for many years, former storyboard artist and conceptual designer Christian Rivers, steps up to take the helm as director, with production designer Dan Hannah and other veterans of previous WingNut Films productions, including visual effects supervisor Ken McGaugh, artisans at Weta Digital and Park Road Post VFX.

Bumblebee
The Transformers saga reaches back to the 1980s, when an encounter in a junkyard leads to a relationship between Bumblebee and a troubled teenager, Charlie Watson, played by Hailee Steinfeld. Travis Knight directs the Paramount Pictures production, with Michael Bay producing. Retro-Transformer effects by Industrial Light & Magic and Cantina Creative, under the stewardship of visual effects supervisor Jason Smith. Special effects supervisor Scott Fisher steers the on-set action.

Mary Poppins Returns
Emily Blunt shines in the role of no-nonsense but magical English nanny Mary Poppins, who returns to Depression-era London — this time to aid the next generation of Banks children in their time of need. Meryl Streep and Colin Firth also star in the film, directed by Rob Marshall. Steve Warner supervised in-camera special effects, while Framestore and Luma Pictures created visual effects inspired by the matte-painted beauty and optical effects wizardry of the original 1967 Mary Poppins.
